Amani Al’Hisa, is a pistol, quick to shoot and even quicker to mouth off. To get out of marriage in the middle-of-nowhere town of Dustwalk, she enters a shooting contest, where she meets a rakish stranger. He’s trouble, but he and a magical horse are her way out of town and into a country-wide rebellion, the schemes of an entire harem, and the secret magic of genies.
I love how Amani is flawed. She speaks out of turn, takes impulsive actions, falls in love readily, and holds a grudge, yet she’s loyal. She tries to save her friends and do the right thing. She’s a perfect heroine for all the action in this story.
If you’re looking for a tale of romance and adventure with a Wild West/ Arabian-nights touch, this is the read for you.
